An oil painting from 1865 shows a scenery from Norway with pine trees in the marshes between steep hills.

"Hertervig 3D" explores pictorial space in this scenery. The painter Lars Hertervig (1830-1902) has already decoded and rendered natural space in his painting.

That same information can be read, analysed and input to be used in a computerbased virtual landscape. This method allows conclusions about the way the painter constructed perspective and space.

Lars Hertervig was a contemporary of Eadveard Muybridge (1830-1904), Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) and Paul Cezanne (1839-1906)

"Old Pinetrees" was painted 1865, the same year that "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll was puplished.
